SELEBRITALK – Grammy Awards ke-63 yang digelar hari ini, 15 Maret 2021, akhirnya memilih lagu “I Can’t Breathe” sebagai pemenang kategori Song of the Year. Lagu yang dinyanyikan H.E.R ini terinspirasi dari kalimat terakhir George Floyd yang tewas akibat penangkapan secara brutal oleh kepolisian di Minneapolis pada Mei 2020 lalu.
Satu bulan sejak meninggalnya George Floyd, H.E.R merilis “I Can’t Breathe” dan akhirnya menjadi salah satu anthem dari aksi kampanye Black Lives Matter.
Saat menerima penghargaan di panggung Grammy Awards 2021, H.E.R tidak pernah membayangkan jika ketakutan dan rasa sakitnya bisa mempengaruhi banyak orang.
“Itu sebabnya saya membuat lagu ini, untuk menandai peristiwa George Floyd dalam sejarah dan saya harap lagu ini melakukannya,” ujar penyanyi yang memiliki nama asli Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson dalam program iHeartRadio’s Living Room Concert Series pada 10 Juni 2020.
